Make Your Career in Civil Engineering

civil engineering

Being known as one of the oldest branch of engineering, civil engineering is a very interesting discipline to study. Many subjects are common with mechanical branch or we can say that there is overlap of subjects. Subjects like mechanics, thermodynamics, material science is studied by both civil and mechanical engineers and also physics is base for both branches. In the recent past civil engineering branch has grown tremendously around the world.

As the technology advancement is happening, a need for specialists in every field is required like structural engineer, geo-technical engineer, environmental engineer, construction engineer, water management engineer and so on to address various aspects. We see the structures which can rotate, which can float, which can withstand earthquakes and so on. But if we go back to the history, especially with reference to India, this branch had flourished centuries ago. Old cities, temples and forts across India are standing examples show the depth of knowledge and expertise which our engineers had during early years. Temples of south India and forts of central and northern India prove that our engineers could build so many structures with such great accuracy that present engineers are still unable to even imagine how they could do it.

With so much advancement of science and technology at dispense we will not be able to replicate what our ancestors had done with minimal resources which were available during that time. There is no dearth of colleges and universities offering civil engineering in India. Among the civil engineering colleges in India, a few offer value for education. Jain University is one among the best university in Bangalore to offer civil engineering course for under graduate students. A blend of faculty members comprising of senior professors from IITs and professors with industry experience in a right mix are guiding students at the department. Regular field visits and camps are conducted to provide students in depth knowledge and exposure to practical aspects.

Decent salary is available for fresh civil engineers if they are open to learning and ready to work hard. Avenues are available for fresher’s in structural design, quality, maintenance, landscaping, infrastructure, project management fields to begin with.  After having gained sufficient knowledge in various fields they can progress in any firm or start on their own. This branch of engineering is a very good choice for those who have entrepreneurial mind set.
