Though all living beings consume food to survive, human beings are fussier about what they eat. Food is the only thing which is cherished by all human beings hence they would like to have the best. Until 5 decades back, an era where no pesticides and chemical manures were in use people used to get healthy food. As the demand and the population grew, farmers started using all sorts of chemicals to increase the yield within minimum time and less resources. Artificial colours and chemicals are being extensively used is ready to eat food. Since few years people are facing health hazards due to excess usage of chemicals in food products. This health related issues created the necessity for systematic study on food products and control on their quality.

Food Technology - Jain University

Food processing dates back to the pre-historic ages when our ancestors had the fair idea of how to store and preserve some food materials for longer time. Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) established during the year 1950 in Mysore, Karnataka is a premier central government organization which is known for providing nutrient foods for defence personnel, government school children, sportsmen and so on. This institute also offers short term courses on food processing, food packaging, protein chemistry and so on which helps budding entrepreneurs to start their own ventures and provide employment to others.
